	At the beginning of the 19th century, ancestors of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever arrived on the coast of Maryland from England by way of Newfoundland. The Chesapeake Bay is noted for ducks and geese which were numerous enough to sustain commercial hunting. This big, strong dog with its waterproof coat was ideally suited to the frigid waters of the bay where it could retrieve as many as 200 ducks a day, a true working dog. Considered by many the ultimate water dog. Chessies are one of only a few truly American breeds.

CLASSIC BAY'S MISSION: To promote CHESAPEAKE BAY RETRIEVERS as a true dual purpose breed that are as confortable in one's home as they are effective in the field or on the water as retrievers. All Classic Bay Chesapeake's compete in field trials and/or hunt tests. We want our experience to be helpful to people interested in the Chesapeake breed.. Greg McGee, an experienced field trial competitor and amateur retriever trainer himself, enjoys working with Classic Bay clients to ensure their chessies reach full potential.

	What you can expect with a Classic Bay chessie pup!

Classic Bay chessie pups are bred to mature to great looking, family oriented, working chesapeakes. All parents are outstanding retrievers. More importantly are their excellent dispositions and temperaments -- they love two things, people and retrieving. We are not sure in which order. Parents of pups have the talent and drive that are essential in outstanding working retrievers. These traits are reflected in the ancestry in both the sire and the dam of all our breedings. Field Champions, Show Champions, and Master Hunters fill their pedigrees. We fully expect these characteristics to be carried forward in all Classic Bay chessie pups. Top picks are usually sold early -- so reserve your pup from an upcoming litter.
